Babies are prone to number of infection due to immature immune system. The immune system in the baby develops with the age. They get any kind of infection one in every 1to 2 months. And ear infection is one of them for which care should be taken. The infection usually occurs in the part of Eustachian tube which is shorter and more horizontal in infants due to this the bacteria and virus finds their way easily into the middle of the ear. The tube is a small passage connecting middle ear to the back of the throat behind the nose.

This is not the only one there are a number of factors responsible for ear infection. They can get infection due to the exposure to cigarette smoke, day care attendance and bottle feeding. The infection is more in boys than girls, with the children whose family have the history of ear infection. Winter is the time when most ear infection is recorded as this is the time when there is respiratory tract infection and cold among children leading to ear infection.

When an infant gets an ear infection he or she may feel fussy, wake in the night due to pain, runny nose and can even have fever. Sometimes the baby can have all these problems more aggravated at night when the baby lies down. Parents should be very alert and wary regarding their small babies. Always keep a small home ear scope and check the baby’s eardrum for redness. If you find a flushed red ear it is sign of ear infection can either by virus or bacteria.
